On Cancer

Abbey and I sat through a presentation last Thursday night regarding cancer, hosted by Standard Process.

That word strikes fear into most of us; and hearing it pronounced over yourself or someone you love is becoming increasingly common.

How common? The stats the doctor used last night were for men over 50, 1:2.5. For women over 50, 1:3. Unbelievable. I don’t know if this is accurate or not, I have no reason to believe that he was fudging the data, but if it is even half of that, we are still in new territory.

Folks, cancer comes from the inside out. It is something you develop based on a multitude of factors. Suffice it to say, we can’t think about it like we do an infectious disease. Infectious disease is usually thought of as outside in. You don’t catch cancer however, you develop it. We must begin thinking of how not to develop cancer if possible. We need to think about what we are feeding our cells and how that might encourage or discourage the development of cancer. All our cells are subject to stressors that either make them stronger and more resilient or more prone to disease. If you want to geek-out, look up epigenetics.

Briefly…

Epigenetics is the science of what influences your genes to express themselves or remain dormant. Just because you have a particular gene, doesn’t make anything a done deal. A gene needs to be influenced to be expressed… or unexpressed. The presence of any particular gene does not necessarily mean you will express it. Only about 5% of our genetic code is hardwired. The rest is subject to the stress put on it by the internal environment of your body and what it is exposed to. Traumas, toxins, and thoughts are a few examples of what can stress a gene and cause it to be expressed and predispose you to disease.

But just because it runs in your family, doesn’t mean you have to run with it.

Back to cancer, and I am condensing a lot of material.

As complicated as cancer can be, we at Swaim Chiropractic have always striven to give you simple actionable steps to improve your chances in any human endeavor. Those of you who have been long time readers will recognize the following list; it really isn’t new to you. I had just never thought of these simple lifestyle habits in relation to cancer.

Here goes:

*First, to whatever extent you can, stop eating highly processed “foods”. They are not actually food. Sure, they are based on the idea of chewing and swallowing and eliminating, but they have little to no nutritional value. So, anything with more than 5 ingredients on the label should be minimized or completely avoided when possible. Have you ever noticed that eggs and meat don’t have labels?

*Fast. Yes, stop eating for a short time. If you are relatively healthy, a 24hr once a week fast should do the trick. If you have some underlying issues, maybe more, maybe less. The idea is to give your body a break and let it get caught up on detoxing. This will make your liver and kidneys so happy.

*Strength train. I was so happy to hear this. Folks, join a gym and get serious. If that makes you nervous, call us, we have simplified the process.

*Minimize inflammation. All the above will help with this. Additionally supplement with turmeric and Cod Liver oil {Turmeric & Cod Liver Oil}. They are both long term solutions for controlling and minimizing inflammation. We have the best available on the market today, in the office. Don’t skip this step by thinking you can eat either one in sufficient quantity to be effective. Supplement!

*I will add this one final thing that I know has benefits, even without the blessing of science. Pray. Praying gets you out of yourself. When we are focused on something other than self, our cells get a big blessing as well. If you doubt what I am saying, I will refer you to a book titled, The Molecules of Emotion, by Candace Pert, PhD. Absolutely fascinating. Our emotions provoke a physical response. Unending negative thoughts really do equal unending negative physical manifestations. Be careful what you dwell on. And as much as possible, take every thought captive.

I understand that some cancers appear to be inevitable. But not at the rate we are seeing them now. And we must own the fact that nobody chews our food for us and nobody thinks our thoughts. That is all on us!

Folks, taking action is pretty simple. Maybe not easy, but simple.

Controlling what you can, makes sense.

Will you join us? We are here to help.

Cheers,

ks

If you read nothing else, read the word of God. And pray indeed when cancer comes knocking.
