Don't Miss the Bus

Image by Kathy Bugajsky from PixabayDo you remember the movie Dumb and Dumber? Jim Carey, Jeff Daniels? As goofy as this movie was, the closing scene of the film portrayed a great lesson.Lloyd Christmas (Carey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels), have made an epic cross country trip to return a suitcase full of money to its rightful owner. Having completed the task and created a lot of mayhem along the way, they are walking back home along a highway, slightly dejected and slightly nostalgic about their great adventure. A bus pulls up filled with bikini clad women and an offer of a ride and jobs supporting the bikini team are offered. For some reason, probably because they are dumb and dumber, they decline the offer and don't realize that an opportunity has passed them by. As crass and juvenile as the scene is, it really does illustrate a point quite well. (If you want to see it, you may YouTube "Dumb and Dumber - Ending")What opportunities are you missing? Are opportunities knocking at your door and you simply can't even recognize them? This past year has been a challenge for all of us. In every way. I can't believe what some of you are dealing with. And the curve balls just keep coming! In all this disorientation and disruption, I have found it very hard to focus on what is important, on what I can invest in, on what I can control. The truth is I can control very little. The truth is also that I have a choice on what I focus on. I have a choice about what I think is truly important. I have a choice on what I can invest in. I need to make better choices! Our last blog focused on the misuse of our imaginations in the form of worry (click here if you missed it: What If?). How many times in a day or week do you say to yourself "what if'' and then let your imagination run wild? A bunch I'll bet. Me too.But we are getting a new start in a new year and things look as disruptive and disorienting as ever. What are we to do?Look for the opportunity! There is opportunity behind every disruption. Opportunities to invest in what you think is important, like your health and your family and your hobbies. Opportunities to grow.Folks, this is a time of great opportunity! It might not feel like it but it is. Open your eyes and don't miss the bus!Happy new year all!Cheersks
