Allergies - Food for Thought

Hello friends! Abbey here!

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared some thoughts but I saw an interesting article today that I wanted to hear your opinions about. Read ithere, then read my thoughts below and let me know what you think!

We are entering what the world has deemed as “allergy season,” & while some people do experience strong allergic reactions to contaminants in the air, others don’t. Some people experience it only some years, and other years not at all. Why do we think that is so?

The article above makes the claim that it is going to inform you why your allergy medication isn’t working for you. That’s why I clicked on it. I was hoping to find someone looking for the root cause of the allergy & a desire to actually figure out WHY. After all, that’s what they told me they were writing about!

Their answer to the problem, though, was simply:

1) That You aren’t taking enough of the medication
or
2) That you aren’t timing the dose correctly
or
3) That you should be taking a different medication.

None of these answer our why at all! Your medication doesn’t work because you aren’t taking it right? That is not a satisfactory answer to me.

Why do we experience allergies? Dr. Swaim has written about this before (catch that here!) but let me summarize what he shared. Allergies are typically the body’s response to an overloaded liver. If your body can’t rid itself of the histamines produced by pollen and other air contaminants, you are going to get symptoms like sneezing, a stuffy nose, watery eyes, & general inflammation. The liver is the thing that clears histamines. You need it functioning at full force! That’s the reason your allergy medication isn’t working. On another note, adding a medication that your body needs to break down and clear is going to stress your liver further, exacerbating your problem.

So Abbey, what am I supposed to do? Here are my thoughts. If this is something gnarly that you deal with, work on your liver health! We have some great recommendations for that, & I am happy for you to set up an appointment to chat about it, 208-466-4580.

If you need symptomatic support right now, we also have a broad spectrum product called Allerplex, which contains vitamins A & C for mucous membrane support, a liver detoxifier, lung and adrenal support, and a liver extract that helps increase blood flow through the liver. I wrote a more thorough explanation on this a few springs ago, and you can read that here, if it intrigues you.

Friends, don’t be satisfied with the answer “just take more.” Truly ask why, & if you get stuck, check in with us! We want you truly well, not just masking your symptoms.

Cheers to always better health!
